The Himalayan cat is also known as Himmie. This is a charming cat developed by breeders from the crossbreed of a Siamese mantle and Persian frame. The cat has blue eyes same as of the Siamese, arranged in striking color patterns which is consist of body tone that is light with accents of dark colors on the points of the cat just like the face, legs, feet, and tail. Except for the point coloration and blue eyes, the Himalayan is quite similar to the Persian. Sometimes it is referred to as a “Colorpoint Persian.” The size is Medium to large, with males weighing 9 to 14 pounds and females weighing 7 to 11 pounds.

HISTORY

The origin of the Himalayan can be traced when breeders in several countries attempted to produce a cat with a typical Persian body but with Siamese markings between the 1920s and ’30s. In 1924, the first signs of success were seen in the U.S. when White Persians were crossed with Siamese, resulting in “Malayan Persians. It was recognized officially as a new breed by the American Cat Fanciers’ Association and Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) in 1957.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

The Himalayan cat, as we have mentioned before, has the characteristics of the Siamese mantle and the long hair from the Persian physiognomy. Many people see a Himalayan cat and assume it’a a Siamese cat with long hair, but it is in fact a cat of Persian sub-race.
These cats are medium-sized, compact, robust, just like Persian cats. The round head is framed by small, separated ears that give importance to its characteristic blue eyes. The face appears very flat due to its flat nose.
The mantle of the Himalayan cat is soft and can vary slightly in tone. It tonal coloring can range from brown to maroon or even blueish shades.

HEALTH 

The most common diseases in Himalayan cats are:
  • 1.Choking and intestinal obstruction (due to formation of hairballs)
  • 2. Glaucoma
  • 3. Mandibular and facial alterations.
  • And like any other cat breed it is important that you feed your cat well and pay a visit to your vet regularly for vaccinations and general check ups.

The beauty of the Himalayan cat lies in the fact that it is a perfect balance between the Persian and the Siamese. The Himalayan cat is just as gentle and docile as the Persian cat. They love to be petted, and they will reciprocate in return.

Persian cats are longhaired and bred with Siamese cats for their markings thus resulting in color point long hair cats. It is also known as the color point Persian cat in Europe.

We can safely say that the Himalayan cat is a very intelligent and friendly cat. they are observant and have great capability to learn. This cat is considered an obedient and affectionate cat. 
These cats do not usually meow like other cats do and they can adapt well small apartments.
In addition to the above, it is a loyal and calm friend. From time to time this cat does enjoy exercising, but will be equally happy laying with you on the sofa.
